Random Thoughts

Wifey wants to go to the beach tomorrow. Will it help to do 1000 sit-ups tonight, or is that just wishful thinking? Probably futile, one workout won't make up for all of those french-fries, potato chips, wheat beers and Trader Joes fried frozen foods (curse you eggplant patties and breaded chickenless nuggets!)

Hansen's raspberry soda, the best soda I've tasted in my life so far. No high fructose corn syrup, not too overpowering, just a delicious soda. I have to limit myself to one a week though.

Went to a grocery store the other day, an "international" grocery store called "Assi". Maybe some of you have heard of it. Couldn't stop joking about the name. Still can't stop.

Saw about 500 bicyclists on the road a few days ago. I think they were shooting a film. Stopped traffic wherever they went, literally. Drivers on the road that night in that area had the privilege of idling away (while our cars were idling) for 5-10 minutes while the bikers rolled by. I love the idea of biking, but not when it's that many people causing that much trouble.

Friends graduation is coming up in two weeks or so. She said not to get her anything, but maybe she's just saying that. I can't think of an appropriate gift, maybe a card and a gift card.

Then our other friend, who is in danger of losing that label from my perspective, refuses to let our dog stay at her shared apartment for a period of four days so that my other visiting friend (the dog's previous owner, coming from Oregon) can spend time with him. The dog literally does not make any noise, does not pee or poop in house and basically does not make you aware of his existence 95% of the time. First "friend" has a roommate (her cousin) who is okay with it. As time passes this is making me more and more upset. In fact, typing this out is starting to get me riled up.

I should have made that a separate blog, I cannot see the reason for why she is refusing to let our dog stay there. It's to the point where if she doesn't budge, I will shun her for the rest of time.

Anyway, until next time.

Mean Security Guard

Just venting a little bit.

We got this security guard at our apartment, this guy is ridiculous.

First, the guy just doesn't respond to me with anything but a neutral expression. It literally doesn't change at all. I say "Hi" and he just stares at me. So I'm thinking maybe he's just like that. But I hear him talking to a lot of other residents in a cheerful manner. So I've come to the conclusion that he just doesn't like me, which I really don't mind. My wife actually hates it a lot more, and she's much more verbal about it. He's the exact same way to my wife, so it's not just me. Whatever happened to simple courtesy? I say "Hi" to people I don't like all the time (right, Collin?) Just kidding.

Second, he got hired to replace the last guy (who I liked and was a lot nicer) because the last guy supposedly fell asleep during his shifts. The guys have to work from 8pm until 5am or so, so I don't blame them. So anyway, there have been a few times now where I come home a little late, say around 12-1am, and guess what? I walk to open our main door, which is glass, and see the new guy sitting down, his head back, mouth open and dead asleep. Of course, he wakes up when he hears my key turning in the lock. I'm tempted to report him, but I'm not that mad about it.

But my thinking is, if we got two security guards who both fall asleep on the job every now and then , and one of them is nice to me and everyone else as far as I can tell, and the other is selectively nice and a complete a-hole to me, I would much rather have the nice guy around than this new guy. I don't think that's unreasonable.

One Day

First thing. If you're wondering where the title of this blog comes from, it's from an old Simpsons episode. I think most of you know the Simpsons, but it's basically a legendary cartoon show about a family and their adventures.

I don't know what I'm allowed to link, but you can find a clip on youtube that explains the whole thing. Just search for "the goggles do nothing" and you'll find a few clips.

One hour of thinking of a title for my blog and that's what I came up with. Sad, I know.

Okay, so I've been listening to this song called "One Day" by Matisyahu like nonstop for the past few days. I have a tendency to do that, just listen to the same song over and over again, literally. I have about 30 songs on my ipod (and that's more than usual for me). But anyway, it's a great song, amazing message set to a beautiful, catchy theme and background music. Again, I'm not sure what I can link, but you can youtube him and check out his stuff. This song is just awesome for me right now, really uplifting and encouraging - something that I think we need sometimes in this crazy, craaaaaazy world of ours.

The message of that song also reminded me of this:

When I see things like this, I think to myself "If these two can find a way to make it work, then human beings have no excuse."

Until next time friends...
