New Zelda Game: The Skyward Sword

OMG.

They are working on the next Legend of Zelda game for the Nintendo Wii, apparently it's called Skyward Sword. It's supposed to release sometime in 2011.

The release date is both good and bad news for me. Bad news because 2011 is, obviously, next year. It's actually great news because if I purchased this game before I take the comprehensive exams, it would probably be a big problem. A really, serious, big problem.

Anybody who is even a casual fan of the Zelda series knows what a new game means. The previous game that launched with the release of the Wii, Zelda: Twilight Princess, was an epic, EPIC game. My wife, who hardly spends any time playing video games, is a loyal Zelda follower, and played this game for hours on end when she finally had a break from school and work. She became obsessed with it. Games like this are typically amazing.

For now, I'm thinking of getting Super Mario Galaxy. The sequel just came out, which is also supposed to be epic. But that makes the first game's value drop a lot, and the first game is still supposed to be amazing and I haven't played it yet.

It's amazing how my passion for video games has not changed since my childhood. My mom told me that I would outgrow toys one day, and of course I didn't believe her. But I have outgrown toys (for the most part), all except video games (and ipods, netbooks, digi cams, and the occasional Transformer).

Some of my favorite Wii Games:

Resident Evil 4
Okami
Super Paper Mario
Zelda: Twilight Princess
and hopefully Skyward Sword and Mario Galaxy

Milk vs. Dark

My friend and I had a discussion about Dark Chocolate, which I prefer and strongly believe to be far superior to Regular, or Milk Chocolate.

Dark chocolate is from my perspective, the grown-up's chocolate. It's like a fine wine, coffee or beer, all beverages which only adults should be consuming. One must develop a taste for it. That's why children typically prefer milk chocolate, that much too sweet, overpowering, jealous little sister of Dark Chocolate.

Milk chocolate is for beginners and novices. Dark chocolate is for, what I like to call, "advanced users".

Also, there are many dark chocolates that do not use any animal ingredients. This is important because if I had a choice, I would always prefer to avoid having cow milk in my foods, especially considering the excessive use of Bovine Growth Hormone. The same cannot be said of Milk Chocolate, which by it's own admission, contains Milk!

And finally, Dark Chocolate just tastes better.

Under Pressure

Currently listening to: The Joker - Steve Miller Band

So Armando Galarraga, pitcher for the Detroit Tigers, just had a perfect game taken away from him by a bad call from the umpire on the final out. To put that in perspective, I think it would have been the 21st perfect game in the history of major league baseball.

It's kind of like someone maintaining a 4.0 gpa and getting an A on the last test of their last course in college, and having the teacher or dean saying "Nope, you failed".

Or, like you won a 100 million dollar lottery, and when you go to pick up your prize, they say "Nope, you didn't win" and they rip up your ticket.

It's hard to explain, but basically it's doing something you should go down in history for, then having someone take it away from you because of their mistake (which now they will go down in history for). Something along those lines.

Anyway, I feel like everyone in our program is starting to feel the pressure of Finals week. I know I am. Projects and papers galore.

It's like being in a maze of assignments and tasks you need to finish. You turn your head away in disgust or triumph from one thing and another is waiting for you. Kind of like that time I was initiated by that pride of lions. Oh wait, that wasn't real.

Sometimes anxiety is good, if it's facilitative. Wow, I actually remembered that from...562? 560? 400?

Somehow, that anxiety will magically transform into a completed website, powerpoint presentation and curriculum design, hopefully of high quality. Good luck to everyone.
